How we raise
The whole life of the animal, on this ground
Calving, grazing, wintering and finishing, in the open, on grass.
What that means in practice
- Calves born on pasture in spring and never separated early
- Grass and our own hay, never grain, never a feedlot
- Paddocks rotated so grass recovers and soil holds water
- No routine antibiotics or growth hormones
- A short trip to a small processor we have used for years
TWO YEARS
The life of a share animal
Month 0
Born on pasture
Spring calving in the open, with the cows watched but left to it.
Months 1 to 8
With the herd
Calves graze beside their mothers through the summer and are weaned in the fall.
First winter
On hay
Hay from our own fields, fed out in the pasture, not in a barn.
Second summer
Finishing on grass
The best grass of the year and the slowest part of the process.
Processing day
One short trip
To the processor, then dry aging and cutting to your sheet.
